Clinton Senior Center Projects
05 Feb 2009, 5:25 PM by alissa, Intergenerational Projects
Students from Facing History HIgh School and the Clinton Senior Center, in Hell's Kitchen, worked together to create photographs that illustrate stories about their past and future. Each person chose a story from their past and a hope for their future to depict in a photograph.
Millie:

Memory: Millie remembered graduating from elementary school. She was very proud and her family gave her a bouquet of flowers.

Future: "I will be a millionare"
Mark:

Past: Mark remembered a memory from his childhood in Switzerland. While taking a long bike trip with his friends, Mark caught a ride up a mountain pass by holding on to the back of a truck. The rest of his friends did not see this happen and when they arrived at their destination hours after him, they thought he was a bike riding champion. To this day, he has never told them how he got up the mountain so quickly!

Future: Mark would like to study economics.

We have been learning about animals in the rainforests of the world. We researched different rainforests and found animals that we are now drawing on murals in their natural environment. We have learned all sorts of fun facts.
Did you know...
Some Gorillas live in the Congo. 98-99% of their DNA is exactly like humans!
Red-bellied Piranhas can be found in the Amazon River Basin. They are known as the most ferocious of the freshwater fish.
Poison Dart Frogs can be found in tropical rainforests around the world. Unlike most frogs, Poison Dart Frogs are diurnal rather than nocturnal. This means that they are awake during the day when most frogs are sleeping!
Toucans can also be found in tropical rainforests. In large species, their very colorful bills are half the size of their entire body!
The Anaconda is a large, non-venomous snake. They are one of the largest snakes in the world!
Bengal tigers live in tropical rainforests in Asia. They are solitary hunters. There are only about 1,300-1,500 left in the wild in the Indian Subcontinent.
Here are some examples of our murals. They are works in progress so we decided to take the pictures while we were working on them. It's like you are in the studio with us! We would love to hear what you think!

Public Service Anouncements: Campaign Posters
16 Jan 2009, 2:33 PM by UrbanArtsAdmin, High School
The Multimedia and Design Class at The Heritage School has been working on Public Service Anouncements around a variety of issues including police brutality, domestic violence, child abuse and gang violence. The designers (aka students) had to come up with a campaign that was important to their comunity (their peers) and create a visual tool to be able to influence the comunities point of view. These are a few of the posters that were created by the designers...
