Resource Blog

This is a place for Teaching Artists to share resources, moderated by your Staff Developer, Alice Proujansky. I'll be posting online art, links to lesson plans, and connections to other young artists. Send me resources!

Online Photo Exhibition

Imagine you were not born free.

Imagine you were assigned to clean sewers, sweep the streets or handle the dead just because of your family lineage because you were seen as 'dirty' and a lesser human being. And imagine you were perceived to be polluting the classroom and forced out of school.

These photographs show the lives of people who really live like this.

We are not Untouchable

What do you think about the photos? What do you think about the people's lives? Do you think pictures can change lives?

Australian Youth Music

Here's a blog post to look at:

"Heaps Decent is the charitable arm of Diplo's Mad Decent label, and it was established to give back to the [Australian] regional music scenes that have shaped the label's sound and identity. Heaps Decent provides studio time, technology, mentors, and know-how to underprivileged, indigenous musicians to start their own movement."

So this song was made by Australian indigenous kids. What do you think of it? Let them know, and send them your artwork! You can start a worldwide movement...

The Masstransiscope

This is a great piece of public art. If you get on the Manhattan-bound Q train at DeKalb Avenue and look out the windows on the right side of the train, all of a sudden you'll see this colorful animation shoot by, painted on a wall of an abandoned train station. It was first made in 1980 and was restored this year. It could be a field trip within a field trip.

Have you seen it? What did you think of it?

This was created by my favorite professor at Hampshire, Bill Brand. I was talking to him about it just after he restored it last fall and he said was very surprised that the city actually gave him the go-ahead back in the 80's. We need more public art like this in our city!
