IS 237 Original Dance Performance

Students from IS 237's after school dance program in Flushing, Queens recently performed an original dance piece at the Urban Arts Festival set to "Run" by French band Air. They choreographed the piece collaboratively based on the music and lyrics of the song, and used movements from various dance styles they explored during the year (such as West African, Modern, Ballet, Hip Hop, Crumping, Waacking, and Jazz.) The piece also aims to tell the story of the struggles of today's urban youth, including self image, bullying, peer pressure and abandonment. They also created their own unique costumes by tie dyeing and customizing tee shirts. See this beautiful and thought-provoking performance below:
