Using mandalas from Carl Jung’s The Red Book, as well as works created by Dr Jung’s patients, students at Community Action School are studying symmetry and symbols in their Art integrated Math Class.  Students are learning to identify horizontal, vertical, rotational, and diagonal symmetry as well as interpret the potential meaning of each image and how symmetry or asymmetry can communicate a thought or idea.  While developing these skills, students are also creating their own mandala which demonstrates their knowledge of symmetry and incorporates images of their own design that represent elements of their own lives and personalities.
