Urban Arts Partnership celebrated the launch of NBC 4 docu-series Cause Celeb at the Digital Cafe of the NBC Experience Store at 30 Rock on Thursday evening.
As you may have heard, the debut episode of Cause Celeb is dedicated to our Artistic Board Chair Rosie Perez, and her work with Urban Arts Partnership, with a focus on Fresh Prep. The show follows two New Design High School students as they complete the 3-week Fresh Prep course and re-take their Regents exams in the hopes of passing, graduating, and moving on to college.
After guests mingled and munched on cupcakes, the program kicked off with remarks by host Cat Greenleaf, General Manager of NBC 4 Michael Jack, and our own Rosie Perez and Philip Courtney. Finally the time came – the premiere of the Fresh Prep episode of Cause Celeb! The show was moving and inspiring, capturing Rosie’s passion and the impact of Fresh Prep through the eyes of two students and the people who support them.
The evening ended on a high-energy note, with guest performer Sadat X and Fresh Prep composer Sam Sellers, aka Rabbi Darkside, taking the stage to perform original Fresh Prep tracks. Rabbi Darkside even threw in a surprise freestyle, based on words guests shouted when asked how they’d describe studying for a test: “blah,” “pressure,” and “boring.” Tune in to Cause Celeb on March 6th at 1:30am or March 27th at 1pm to find out how Fresh Prep flips that script.
