In preparation for the first Urban Mic poetry slam of the 2011-2012 school year, Urban Arts Partnership Master Poets welcomed guest Master Artist Regie Cabico. Regie is a critically acclaimed spoken word artist whose work has appeared in more than 30 poetry anthologies. He also performs often at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and Bowery Poetry Club.

Regie led a Master Class with the Master Poets in the Lounge at Dixon Place Theater, speaking about his own work and honing their performance technique. The students were eager to incorporate Regie’s performance feedback, as this Urban Mic served a special purpose: to choose the Urban Arts student poet who will openThe 24 Hour Plays on Broadway Benefit with a spoken word performance.

Master Poet Stefanie Herrera was chosen by a panel of judges at Urban Mic to represent Urban Arts Partnership at The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway, alongside alums Clevins Browne and Olivia McClendon. Come to The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway Benefit to help us celebrate the 10th Anniversary of this signature fundraiser and cheer Stefanie’s Broadway debut!

We are grateful for the support of Montblanc and the volunteer efforts of our Guest Artists who make our year-long Master Class series so meaningful and productive for participating students.
