April 27, 2015Urban Arts Partnership (UAP), the largest and fastest growing arts education organization in NYC, presents its annual Urban Arts Festival at The United Palace Theatre, hosted by actress Selenis Leyva, with special awards presented by Laura Gómez, both actors from NETFLIX award winning hit series Orange Is The New Black. The event, hosted in conjunction with NYC Dept of Education District 6 leaders, Urban Arts Partnership alumni, the United Palace of Cultural Arts and representatives from Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez’s office, brings together parents, students, educators and their local communities to celebrate and #PackThePalace in support of arts education in public schools. Taking place on Wednesday, May 13th at the United Palace Theatre in Washington Heights, will honor the talented teachers, students and parents who make Urban Arts Partnership programs a resounding success.

This annual event breeds the creative confidence necessary for participating students to succeed both in and outside of school. The #PackThePalace campaign is a call to action to fill the 3,400 seats in the historic theater to celebrate the creativity of Urban Arts Partnership students in NYC and the end of the school year!

“The outpouring of support for this event over the last few months demonstrates the willingness and desire for community members to be more involved in our public schools” says UAP CEO Philip Courtney. “Arts education has the power to transform communities by engaging students in their own education and getting parents and leaders excited about what’s going on in NYC classrooms.”

Special guests Chancellor Carmen FariñaBorough President Gale Brewer and Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez will present awards to middle and high school students who have excelled in UAP’s in school and after school programming.

Urban Arts Partnership, NYC’s largest arts education organization serving 15,000 students and 750 teachers in over 100 schools, advances the intellectual, social and artistic development of underserved public school students through arts-integrated education programs to close the achievement gap. Through a dynamic range of programs including playwriting, theater, media, music, dance, spoken word, photography and the visual arts, Urban Arts Partnership empowers youth to develop the creative and analytic impulses that will serve them as students, professionals and responsible citizens. Artistic Board members include Rosie Perez, Sofia Coppola, Michael Ealy, Aasif Mandvi and other visionary artists who lend their time and talent to support UAP students.

District 6 (Washington Heights), is a partner of UAP’s Federal Investing in Innovation (i3) grant and 21st Century Community Learning Center grant which will provide support to middle and high schools across the district.
