Joan, EASE Lead Teaching Artist & Curriculum Designer
Joan Merwyn has been working creatively with general education and with special needs educators and student populations in New York City since 1983. As a movement and theater specialist, Joan also creates multi-arts curriculum, conducts professional development training, mentoring and artist-in-residencies for educators, teaching artists, grades Kindergarten through advanced degree and adult, professional levels.
Joan is an award winning and critically acclaimed performing artist, teacher, choreographer and stage director. She has performed and taught in Europe, Canada and the U.S. with her solo performances and as a founding member of numerous experimental and physical theater companies. She is a Bessie Award winning performer (NY Dance and Performance Award, for Best Ensemble Performance) with Margolis Brown Adaptors and received an Individual Artist Choreography Fellowship for her solo work from RI State Council on the Arts.
As Lead Teaching Artist and Co-Curriculum Designer of the EASE program, Joan trains District 75 teachers to integrate arts into classroom instruction.
