Sarwat Siddiqui

UAP Play Writing alumna and Nagler Scholar

Sarwat  Siddiqui is a force to reckon with. In June of 2013, she impressively graduated from  Susan Wagner High School with a 4.0. GPA, was awarded the President’s Education Award  for Outstanding Academic Excellence;  and was a finalist for the New York Times Scholarship.

Sarwat spent the summer of 2013 in Nanjing, China where she trained through the Council for International Educational Exchange to teach English.  She is now at Fordham studying Neuro-Science and playwriting. She wants to pursue a career in which she can help people live normal, full lives and not let mental/health disorders define them. She envisions herself working as a pediatric neurologist and one day working for the World Health Organization while continuing to write plays on the side.

Urban Arts Partnership awarded Sarwat the 2013 Nagler Scholarship ($40K over 4 years) to supplement her tuition. The Nominating Committee, headed  up by long time Board Member/theater producer Niclas Nagler and Artistic Board Chair /Actress Rosie Perez , selected Sarwat out of all the graduating seniors based on her extraordinary oratorical skills, intelligence,  independence, motivation, determination and passion.  They were impressed by her ability to focus on her education and be an active, accomplished member in Urban Arts’ playwriting and leadership programs whilst experiencing incredible tumult in her personal life.
