PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Urban Arts offers customized Professional development workshops for educators to build artistic skills through a hands-on lesson that demonstrates the Urban Arts methodology.

WORKSHOPS

Series

○        Creatively Danielson: workshops project based learning in the arts that cover Danielson 3

○        Fresh Prep Cohort: is a space for teachers participating in Fresh Prep to develop their teaching practice and understanding of Fresh Prep material

○        Story Studio Cohort: allows teachers working with Story Studio to  gain facility and independence with the program material

○        Choosing to Participate: is a series on building and mounting a student directed art show around a research or social action topic

○        Podcast a Project: takes teachers through building podcasts and simple, free technology into a lesson

○        A+STEM: shares achievable projects that integrate digital media into STEM subjects

○        Common Core Shifts: builds upon the instruction shifts 1-5 in ELA, sharing arts-based projects to develop teacher practice

 

Stand Alone Professional Development

○        Introduction to Urban Arts Integration: shares successful practices in integration planning, co-   teaching, and learning core academic subjects through the arts; its focus is on presenting tools for successful collaborative teaching

○        Story Studio for Teachers: is an introductory workshop for teachers participating in Story Studio, sharing best practices and an overview of the arch of the program

○        Fresh Prep for Teachers: is an introductory workshop for teachers participating in Fresh Prep, sharing methodology and best practices

○        Collage and Campaign: teaches collage and social action poster projects, including historical and fine art backgrounds, that can be used in social studies and advisory projects

○        Common Core Shifts: shares short term art projects in service of core academic subject matter addressed in Common Core ELA shifts 1-5 Art Forms: visual art, theatre, music, dance, spoken word

○        How to Talk so Kids Will Listen (teacher edition): shares social work and creative skill building for communicating with students

○        A+STEM: shares short term art projects integrating into STEM subjects for innovative project based learning. Art Forms: visual art, theatre, music, dance, photography

 

Parent Workshops

○        I Teach I Learn: students have the opportunity to teach their parents what they’ve learned in Urban Arts classes, fostering dialogue and excitement about learning for the entire family

○        Engaging through the Arts: parents learn firsthand what students are doing in project based learning classrooms, as well as have the chance to speak directly with teaching artists and discover engaging activities for their families

○        Story Studio at Home: brings parents and guardians into the world of the Story Studio Program with activities, time for question and answer with Story Studio teachers, and a chance to share their stories

○        Fresh Prep, Fresh Folks: shares the Fresh Prep methodology with parents and guardians of Fresh Prep students, including strategies for passing the Regents at home and ways to support students in finishing their exams.
