Youth Leader Featured On MSNBC’s The Last Word

On Tuesday night, graduate of Urban Arts Partnership’s Academy and Adobe Foundation Creativity Scholarship recipient Kasiem Walters was featured on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell. Over the past year, the Youth Leadership Network (a collaboration between The Academy and LatinoJustice PRLDEF), has empowered and educated a group of civically-engaged youth advocates, whose efforts to shine a light on the consequences of the NYPD’s controversial Stop-and-Frisk policies have made a significant impact on their communities. The students launched a multi-channel social media campaign around the subject called “More Than A Quota” and organized a rally and press conference attended by City Council members and media. And now that the eyes of the country are on New York City and the outcome of this dialogue, our young people are being heard on the national stage.
