The School of Interactive Arts Pre-College program enjoyed record enrollment for the 2020-21 school year with a total of 97 students participating in game design and game development classes. This number represents a 21% increase over the previous school year's enrollment and a 32% increase from two years ago. While COVID-19 has shut down traditional learning opportunities for students all across the country, the Pre-College Program has flourished online as students are able to attend SIA's virtual classes via Discord.
The SIA Pre-College program teaches high school students the art and science of game development, a field full of opportunity but lacking in workforce diversity. The SIA curriculum is multi-year, and dedicated to preparing students for college throughout high school. The program uses game design as an entry point to teach computer science and higher level coding while helping students develop pre-professional skills in communication, collaboration, project management, and entrepreneurship.
Students participating in SIA boast a 100% graduation rate and 80% of all program graduates go on to major in a computer science or creative technology field in their post-secondary studies.
