Story Studio is a proven affective arts and English language integration program for elementary, middle and high school students.
Through the power of visual arts and storytelling, Story Studio advances literacy development for low-income English Language Learners by increasing comprehensive ELA achievement in reading, writing, speaking and listening.
After a successful completion of the development and dissemination phase, the program expanded into the 21st Century Expanded Learning Time (ELT) programs providing arts based instruction for 1,500 student in 58 classrooms across New York City.
In addition to this growth, the US Department of Education’s Office of Innovation has awarded Story Studio its prestigious Investing In Innovation (i3) grant. This $3M award will support a 5-year scale up of our Story Studio program, supporting 15,000 English language learners in NYC and Los Angeles by advancing their literacy achievement through the arts. UAP is one of only 21 organizations across the country to receive this grant, and the only organization focused on arts education. Matching funds for this scale up are provided by The Wallace Foundation & The New York Community Trust.
